WHY I CHOSE TO VOLUNTEER AS A COACH
GIVING BACK
It's been 8 years since I last competed, but I will always remember these unique experiences I shared with my brothers. Now, when I volunteer on Saturdays to help teach young children the basics of ice skating, I think back to the days when we first started.
I remember how hard it was to stay upright on the ice, and how embarrassed we were when we fell on the ice. It was such a relief to make it to the other side of the rink. When I work with skaters, I see so much of myself and my brothers back when we were that age and still so tentative.
I enjoy watching students lose their fears and gain confidence, getting more adventurous each week about trying new skills.
